With about 1.2 million passengers in 2019, Airport Weeze is the one of the airports in Northrhine Westphalia. Further the airport is one of Europe’s youngest airports, first civilian flight in 2003, and simultaneously one of the first privately owned airports in Germany. The international airport lies in the county of Kleve approx. 70 km north of Düsseldorf close to the motorway A57 near the Dutch border. Over 10 million people live within a 60-minute drive radius. 40 percent of departing passengers come from the Netherlands; approx 60 percent from the Lower Rhine region, Ruhr and Rhineland. Over 1,000 people are today working at the airport and resident businesses and authorities. The airport grounds, logistics area and industrial park adjacent to the airport called “Airport City Weeze” comprise 620 hectare.
